I qualified as a personal trainer 10 years ago and worked for a spell in the fitness industry. At that time there was no focus on breathing. With Patrick McKeown’s excellent Oxygen Advantage® programme (I am an advanced instructor) however, breathing is now on the map.
For anyone serious about optimising their fitness and getting the most out of their training, learning how best to breathe is important. If you suffer from asthma or EIB (exercise-induced bronchoconstriction) I highly recommend it.
Breathing efficiently ensures we get the most out of our training, supplying more oxygen to our muscles and (critically) to our brain. In high-demand sports with limited recovery time, we can learn how to quickly bring our heart rate down and conserve more energy.
I have been a runner all my life. Before changing my breathing pattern I suffered from stitches. Nothing helped until I changed my breathing- I have never had a stitch since. I’ve worked with several runners who achieved the same result. But it’s how much better we feel after a run, workout or training session that stands out the most. Better breathing leads to better sleep, too- a vital factor for anyone serious about their training.
My approach when working with EIB sufferers or anyone looking to improve their breathing to improve fitness, performance etc. combines everything I learned on the Oxygen Advantage® programme with everything I have self-researched and practised myself. I believe I have a good and worthwhile approach. Why not book a no-obligation call and we can chat about your needs.
